In chapter seven, Craddock interrogates Phillipa Haymes, Colonel and Mrs. Easterbrook, and Mrs. Harmon. Craddock visits Dayas Hall to talk to Mrs. Phillipa Haymes. He finds her in the Apple Orchard. She tells Craddock that she indeed went through the side door and it was unlocked, but she says she locked it when she came in.
