Berlin

Berlin, the novel’s primary setting, is Germany’s capital and most populous city. Robert is originally from England, but he eventually moved to Berlin and married a German woman. He has lived in Berlin since then, with his wife and their two young daughters. Robert likes Berlin but does not always feel at home there. The novel’s present-day storyline primarily consists of Robert’s interactions with Patrick in Germany, as well as his interstitial interactions with his family.
