Part 2, Chapter 4 Summary

Micky is beginning to tire of marriage. He is attending the festivities at Nellie's that night and finds Rachel barring the door when he tries to leave. She does not want him to catch a disease and pass it on to her. She tells him she will leave him if he does not break it off with the prostitutes. She runs out of the house and into her father's carriage. Micky tells her father to keep her.

Edward had finally secured the Greenbourne bank's participation in the Cordovan bond launch, which Micky thinks about as he walks to April's. April tells him they have a new girl at the masked party and she is a virgin. Micky takes the girl and Edward follows. The girl's hood comes off as Edward rolls her over and he sees it is Emily.
