Chapter 17

Erec charges through the night on his horse Warkfin, towards the castle his wife is imprisoned in. It is guarded by a large number of soldiers. He hopes to avoid conflict with the powerful lord. He announces himself and explains that Alistair is his wife. The lord rejects Erec's claim. Enrages, Erec throws a spear and strikes him through the throat, killing him instantly. Erec rushes through the gate and traps the soldiers outside of it. Erec defeats the soldiers inside and calls to his wife, defeating two more soldiers before he hears her call out to him. He rushes her direction, defeating more soldiers along the way. He hears the gate destroyed in the courtyard, which means the soldiers have broken through and will come after him. He reaches Alistair just as one of the Lord's servants tries to kill her...
