The objective of this lesson is to discuss the various diseases brought to the Indians by the white man.

Lesson

1) Students should each research one disease or sickness that the white man brought to the Indians. What was the disease? How was it brought to the Indians?

2) Engage the students in a class discussion about the reasons Indians were so susceptible to these new diseases. How many Indians were killed by the new sicknesses?

3) For Homework: Have students write a brief essay explaining how they feel about the influx of white sicknesses that killed so many Indians.
