It is said that these books are based on a number of things, in particular the poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" by Robert Browning and the Lord of the Ring series by J.R.R. Tolkien. Discuss these works with students. Discuss the main themes of these works and ask students to make a list of those themes to keep in mind as they begin reading this novel.
