These chapters introduce three of the main characters and their relationships to one another. This book is the third in a group of seven novels that follow Roland, a gunslinger, and his ka-tet as they search for the Dark Tower. The objective of this section will be the history of the book.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: This book is third in a collection of seven books by Stephen King. It is said that these books are based on a number of things, in particular the poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" by Robert Browning and the Lord of the Ring series by J.R.R. Tolkien. Discuss these works with students. Discuss the main themes of these works and ask students to make a list of those themes to keep in mind as they begin reading this novel.
