• In Chapter 1, Percy’s mother drives him, Annabeth, and Thalia to a boarding school in Maine.

• It is an eight-hour drive through sleet and snow.

• Percy and the girls are responding to a call for help from Grover.

• When they arrive, Percy notices that Westover Hall looks like an “evil knight’s castle” (1).

• The place is a military school.

• Percy, Annabeth, and Thalia have brought weapons with them.

• They go inside the school and run into two teachers.
