Lesson 1 (from Introduction - Chapter 9)

Objective

This lesson introduces students to Kate Quinn’s historical novel, The Rose Code. Students will read the Introduction and Prologue, research the author, and discuss the narrative style and genre of the book. This book is a work of historical fiction exploring the interpersonal and international dynamics of Bletchley Park, England, during and after World War II. Its main protagonists, Beth, Osla, and Mab, are fictional dramatizations based on the composites of several real-life women involved in top-secret code-breaking during the war.

Lesson

Group Activity: Assign students to groups of 3-4 each. As a group, read the opening Introduction and Prologue of The Rose Code. Discuss the basic information that has been related in the reading.
