Lizzie Rose

This character is the daughter of theater actors that died a year and a half ago. After their death, she came into the care of a puppeteer.

Parsefall

This character is a tough young man who has grown up in poverty in Victorian England. He is extremely talented with his hands, able to both control a puppet with grace, but steal without the victim ever being aware of his touch. He is the ward of the novel’s puppeteer.

Clara Wintermute

This character appears to be a spoiled child when she is first introduced in the novel, but the reader soon learns that her four siblings died five years before and her mother continues to grieve them as though they only died a month before. She hosts a birthday party with a hired puppeteer in the beginning of the story.
