Objective

Chapter 1

TRAILERS - In this chapter, the author describes Will Navidson's profession as a filmmaker through the description of two movie trailers Navidson recently filmed. The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the function of a movie trailer and to discuss how the two trailers described in the novel give the reader insight into the themes of this novel.

Lesson

1.) As a class, create a list of functions a movie trailer is useful for. Why do you think Danielewski chooses to open his novel with a description of two movie trailers?

2.) As a class, compare/contrast the film trailer for "Exploration #4" with the trailer for "The Five and a Half Minute Hallway." What is the same about these trailers. What is different? Is there anything surprising in this comparison?
