The Eyes of the Dragon is a story of murder, intrigue, mystery, and deceit. It involves a king, his sons, and a deceitful adviser who wants to destroy the kingdom. This lesson will center on characterization.

Lesson

1. Class discussion: Who are the main characters in this story? What do you learn about each one in the opening chapters and how do you know which ones will be the central figures throughout the story? Do you immediately like or dislike any of the characters? Why or why not?

2. Group discussion: Divide the class into groups of 3-4. Have students discuss: From what you know of the characters so far, who is the strongest? Who is the weakest? Which one(s) do you think will be central characters in the story?

3. Individual: Have students write a brief essay describing one or two of the characters...
