Objective

Objective: Drugs play a huge role in the lives of Vietnam soldiers. The object of this lesson is to discuss the drug culture of Vietnam.

1) Students should be given the opportunity to research the drug culture of Vietnam. This can include time in the library, internet or the inclusion of other media from the time period.

2) Once students have a firmer background knowledge of the drug culture of Vietnam, a class discussion should cover the rise of drug use during the war; what effect the drugs had on soldiers; how soliders carried the drug culture back to the United States; and how the American soldiers' drug use affected Vietnam.

3) For Homework. Have students research the drugs most popular during the Vietnam War. What are the intended uses? What are the side effects? How were the drugs obtained? How were the drugs misused? Students should write a brief...
