Confessions

Assign a group of students to portray the main characters in a panel discussion. Allow the rest of the class to ask the characters questions about their part in Santiago's murder, whether the characters wanted Santiago dead or not. Through the questioning, each character should try to confess his or her motivations to the class.

Wanted Posters

After reviewing old West wanted posters, groups will design posters for any character, choosing from Santiago or his three murderers. Groups will present these to the class, explaining their choices of images and text.

Close-ups

Students will create a portrait of any of the townspeople, using photography, paint, pencil and paper, etc. Students will attempt to capture the time and setting of the novel in their portrait, and choose one quote from the text reflecting their ideas to serve as the title of their portrait.
