Chapters 24 and 25 Summary

In Chapter 24, Evie is frantic with worry as she throws a few of her mother's and Joe's things in a suitcase. She rides with Mr. Forney as they evacuate. Mr. Forney tells Evie he has fired Wally because of what happened between the two of them the day before. He says it is because of the hotel's high standards. Evie indicates to him that she knows about the standards because she saw how the Graysons were kicked out of the hotel the previous day because of the high standards.

Evie is alone as the hurricane hits the courthouse. Someone brings Evie a blanket and some soup. The electricity goes out. To comfort herself, Evie concocts a story in her head in which Peter comes to find her after the storm and they become sweethearts. A police officer comes to talk to...
