Chapters 16 and 17 Summary

In Chapter 16, Evie notices that the routines of her family and the Graysons changes. Joe and Tom spend much time together. Mrs. Grayson rides off on her bicycle for hours at a time, and Peter comes by the hotel often to take Beverly and Evie out for rides in his car. One day Beverly tries to keep Evie from swimming in the ocean just after she had eaten. Peter tells her that he has been swimming in the ocean for years and has never been bothered by swimming just after eating. He throws Evie in the ocean, then throws her mother in as well. Evie notices the way her mother laughs and plays with Peter like a teenager.

One day while they are out driving, Peter teaches Evie how to drive. When they stop at a gas station for Cokes, Peter...
