Chapters 12 and 13 Summary

In Chapter 12, Peter invites Evie to see a movie with him. When Evie approaches her parents, Joe appears to scowling and tells Beverly that he doesn't like Peter's interest in Evie. Beverly offers to chaperone. At first, Evie sits between Peter and her mother but her mother sends her for food. When she returns her mother and Peter are sitting next to one another.

After the movie, Peter takes them for a soda at the drug store. Evie sees Wally at the drug store and her mother tries to get her to go join him. Evie tries to refuse but her mother continues to push. Evie tries to be civil to Wally but when she senses he is about to offer to take her to see a swamp, she cuts off the conversation by indicating she has to get back to...
