Overcoming Prejudice

Throughout the novel, the characters must overcome their prejudice in order to work together toward a common goal. Chaol and Yrene’s relationship epitomizes the success of overcoming inherent biases. When Hafiza first assigned Yrene to heal Chaol, she refuses on account of his ties to Adarlan. Yrene says, “If he was Captain of the Guard for the last king, he—he worked for the man who… indulged in his father’s riches—the riches of my people… Do you know what the king’s men did these years?
