Summary

Part 1, called “The God-City,” began with Chapter 1. Chaol Westfall was the former Captain of the Royal Guard in Adarlan, an empire on the continent of Erilea. Dorian Havilliard, the King of Adarlan and Chaol’s best friend, had recently appointed Chaol as Hand to the King. During the battle that resulted in Dorian’s father’s death and Dorian’s rise to the throne, Chaol injured both of his legs and must use a wheeled chair. Dorian encouraged Chaol to travel to the Southern Continent, where the best world-renowned healers were trained in the Torre Cesme, to find a cure for his injury. Chaol also aimed to convince the khagan to send troops to help the Adarlan forces in a brewing war against the Valg demon king called Erawan.
