Summary

Chapter 47 continues in Kaladin's first person narration but is a flashback to one year ago. This flashback is similar to the first chapter of the novel but it is from Kaladin's point of view. Kaladin prepares for battle and stops a commander named Gare in order to make him transfer a young boy named Cenn into Kaladin's command. Gare eventually agrees and Kaladin heads over to the surgeon's tent to give him a bribe. While Kaladin tries to undo the money pouch, a windspren plays a trick on him and makes it stick to his belt and then suddenly releasing it. Kaladin makes his bribe so that his soldiers will be cared for first and returns to his squad to find the boy Cenn has already made his way to them. Later on, the battlefield, Cenn is separated from the group causing Kaladin...
