On their way home, Daniel and Fermin discuss their meeting with the priest. Fermin is much shaken with the mention of Fumero, his torturer. They are also perplexed as to why Nuria Monfort lied to Daniel. What possible reason she could have for lying was beyond them. But they are determined to get to the bottom of this.

Conversation turns to personal matters. Fermin teases Daniel about his new love and warns him that he had better take a stand before she is lost to her old boyfriend, the soldier. Arriving home, Daniel is pleasantly surprised to find Bea waiting outside the bookstore. She had given the excuse that she was going to church to get out of the house. She tells Daniel that they must.....
