At dawn the next day, Daniel gets on a tram to go to the AldayaÂ's home. He found the return address on the envelope of the letter Penelope wrote to Julian. The house was empty, but he spoke to the caretaker. The caretaker had been there since 1920, he knew them well, however he did not remember the AldayaÂ's having a daughter. Apparently the Aldayas had lost everything in Spain and went to Argentina, where they had factories and the house had been closed for over twenty years now. The caretaker believed the house was haunted, as he would often hear noises at night, and someone had once gone in at night and thought there was something in the house.
