Daniel goes to the Fortuny hat shop that was the background of the photo he found. The shop had been closed for twelve years since the death of the old hatter, but Daniel is able to speak to the caretaker. The caretaker, Dona Aurora confirmed that the young man in the photo was Julian Carax. She also informed that Julian had left Barcelona in 1918 for Paris as his father wanted to put him into the army. Old man Fortuny had told Aurora that his son had died in Paris in 1919. Daniel tells the lady that the old man had lied and that Julian was alive at least until 1935, when he returned to Barcelona. The woman is very happy to hear that Julian might.....
