Section 7: Chapters 19-21 Summary

In Chapter 19: A Picnic in the Sky, Sadie summons a portal through which she, Carter and Bast escape. Since Sadie did not specify which American city she wanted, they are sent to the default portal for America, the biggest obelisk ever constructed, the Washington Monument. Since they cannot open another portal from the Washington Monument for twelve hours, after which the Demon Days will have already begun, Bast points out they will need another way to reach Arizona. While Bast scouts the area, Carter offers to keep watch to allow Sadie to rest.
