Summary

In Chapter 24, Falk and Raco go to the school and ask Whitlam if they can see the security footage from the day on which the Hadlers were killed. Whitlam shows them the footage. On the screen, Karen appears to be crying as she leaves. The footage shows the staff of the school leaving throughout the afternoon and evening, with Whitlam leaving last at around 7:00. Later, Falk goes to buy some things in a convenience store, but the clerk refuses to sell to Falk when he recognizes him. Falk comments, “This town’s dying on its feet, and you can afford to turn down a sale, can you?” (203). In Chapter 25, Falk has dinner with Raco and his pregnant wife, Rita.
