Part 3, Chapter 3 Summary

Roland takes over Jack Mort's body. Jack Mort's mind rebels against Roland but Roland is the stronger consciousness. Roland uses Jack Mort's body to locate shells for his guns and medicine to treat his infection. Roland takes Jack Mort's body to a gun shop and finds the right type of shells in a gun catalog. He tries to purchase the shells but is stopped because he does not have a permit to carry a weapon. When the clerk informs him of this, he devises a scheme. He hides his wallet in the store and then goes outside to a pair of police officers. He claims that the clerk has robbed him. The police accompany him back inside the gun shop to settle the dispute.
