Jessie enters the room in a torrent of tears and sobs, apologizing over and over again for what she has done. Lije is in shock and does not want Jessie revealing anything in this office where there are always people around, plus Enderby will be back at any moment.

They take a squad car onto the highway and Lije, Daneel and Jessie are soon discussing whatever caused this sudden outburst. Jessie begins to explain, in a calmer demeanor how she has always been surrounded by these Medievalists. Her friend Elizabeth used to talk about how the Spacers wanted to make Earth weaker and that she was part of some sort of meetings that discussed these issues.
