Afternoon of A Plain Clothes Man Summary

There is a story Lije heard as a child about a man in London who committed a murder and then got lost in the never-ending roads, mazes and alleyways of the City. The story became a type of folklore and is known as the "Wandering Londoner." This memory makes him uneasy and he presses Daneel about Enderby being a suspect. Daneel assures him of Enderby's innocence, along with everyone else in Spacetown, leaving the obvious suspect a City dweller. Lije cannot imagine how strenuous it must have been for Enderby, being investigated, especially since he is known for getting along with the Spacers.
