Lije first met his wife, Jessie at a Section Christmas party. Her full name was Jezebel and his, Elijah, who were "enemies" in the Bible. They have been married 18 years. At the apartment, Lije introduces R. Daneel as his new partner. Jessie asks Lije about the shoe store incident, which was on the news and Lije explains nothing had happened. Jessie gets more acquainted with Daneel and finds his demeanor pleasing. Lije wonders what Daneel will think about Jesse, who is quite different from female Spacers.
