Conversation With A Commissioner Summary

Elijah Baley is a hard-working City dweller and policeman with a wife and son. R. Daneel Olivaw is a Spacer humanoid robot created for the purpose of providing justice. Lije Baley at the New York City police Headquarters is notices that Commissioner Julius Enderby appears uneasy and distressed about something. Enderby broke his glasses three days earlier and the circumstances relate directly to what the Commissioner is about to tell Baley.

Enerby tells Lije that three days ago a Spacer died from a blaster to the chest. The Spacers in Spacetown believe an Earthman committed the crime and Enderby assigns Lije to work on the murder case. The Spacers allow an investigation and will not send a report to their Outerworlds if Lije takes on a Spacer robot as his partner. A robert partner will be an immense challenge. Enderby offers Lije an extensive raise if he agrees....
