Book 1 Chapter 9 Summary

Bourne is driving around the river looking for St. Jacques or the man who took her. Finally, he spots a car in an isolated area near the riverbank. He observes the car and hears screaming. He knows it is St. Jacques. He moves in on the car and sees St. Jacques being raped by her captor. He is furious and overcome with rage. Bourne confronts the man and demands that he get out of the car. He can't fire at him for fear of hitting St. Jacques. The rapist fires his gun at Bourne and hits him. In the confusion, he exits the car and takes cover. Bourne fires in his direction. He hits the man but not seriously.
