Chapter 39 Summary

Looking for a pen, Valancy enters Bluebeard's Chambers. When Valancy goes to the desk, she finds stacks of papers written by John Foster. She finds a pen and piece of paper to write Barney a goodbye letter. Valancy puts the letter and her string of pearls on Barney's desk and leaves the house. She glances at her Blue Castle once last time before leaving.

Chapter 39 Analysis

Barney Snaith is John Foster. John Foster is Barney's pen name. Again, since Valancy is looking at life from a different vantage point once again, she now sees her Blue Castle as the pitiful shanty that it is instead of her Blue Castle.
