Chapter 25 Summary

Roaring Abel says goodbye to Valancy because she plans on leaving his home to following day. Valancy goes down to the gate and awaits Barney's arrival. When Barney arrives, Valancy proposes marriage to Barney. Valancy hands the letter from Dr. Trent to Barney. They each state their terms and conditions for the marriage and agree to marry each other. Barney tells Valancy that he doesn't love her but that he's always thought she was a dear.

Chapter 25 Analysis

Valancy is marrying Barney because she thinks she loves him. In reality, she just wants to experience love and marriage before she dies. Barney is marrying Valancy to help her fulfill her dream and because he pities her for her health situation.
