Chapter 20 Summary

Neria Torres is driving cross-country with her professor lover and a beautiful young student of his. Neria is suspicious of her boyfriend's feelings for the young student and has begun to question her desire to remain in a relationship with the professor. Neria is more concerned about reaching Tony at this point, however, as she is concerned her husband might be trying to take all the insurance money for himself. Neria must now decide if she should drive to Brooklyn in search of her husband, as suggested by the strange woman on the phone, or continue to Miami. Neria calls the police in Miami to see if her wayward husband might have been arrested, which would explain his failure to answer their home phone, but loses patience before the police can tell her anything.
