Chapters 16-17 Summary

Edie Marsh opens a bank account in a local bank under the name Neria Torres, using a car registration as identification. This account is meant to be Edie's means to cash the insurance check when it arrives. At the same time, Avila is watching Jackson being devoured by a lion. Avila can hardly believe his luck and assumes this good fortune has come to him because of his sacrifices to the Santeria god Chango. Avila frees himself from the tree and rushes home to make a bigger offering of goats. Back at Augustine's, Skink tells Augustine about the license plate number Tile gave him. Augustine volunteers to help Skink search for the attacker. Later, Augustine goes into the house, where he finds Bonnie in his bed. Bonnie wants to make love to him, but Augustine resists because he is not sure...
