Mystery

The theme of mystery is explored through a vast number of characters and symbols in this novel, such as the Mazg, Mr. Marrow, and the Clement Street Starter. The Mazg culture is one of the most prominent of these symbols, and its enigmatic and nomadic nature explores this theme. For example, Beoreg’s emails that appear at the end of some chapters give the reader insight about the Mazg culture. However, these emails provide information that merely serves to intensify the speculation about the history of the Mazg. For example, Beoreg tells a somewhat plausible story about how the Mazg culture blossomed after a man was stranded on an island.
