Lois Clary

Lois is the protagonist of the novel. She moves to San Francisco to start a new career with General Dexterity, a company that specializes in the programming and development of robot arms. However, when Lois begins to find her job monotonous and unfulfilling, she seeks respite through food, and stumbles upon Clement Street Soup and Sourdough. Through this restaurant, the plot of the novel develops. Lois obtains the Clement Street starter, and embarks on a baking journey, rife with discussions about microbial morality, overcoming of obstacles, and the merging of food and technology.

Lois has various crucial roles in this novel. First and foremost, she is the narrator of the story.
