Summary

Chapter 16 is titled “The Red Scrolls of Magic.” Magnus leads the others to the back of the building and they find the stairs. They descend and Magnus knows some warlock must have placed an enchantment to keep the water from coming in. They all feel the place is a joke, filled with cheap “knickknacks.” While they are searching for the statue, Shinyun “strode toward the makeshift altar, then suddenly tripped and sprawled onto the ground” (178). She suggests they figure out what she tripped over while she dusts herself off and the find “a tiny stone statue of a goat” (178). Magnus whispers the password Johnny gave him, Asmodeus, and a door opens revealing the real chamber. Alec notes the “fully-stocked bar” and Magnus says “This is definitely my cult” (180).
