Summary

In Chapter 28, Gil calls Suzanne and then Marieka. Gil is still in denial believing that Matthew won’t do anything desperate. Mila silently begs him to see the truth. She does beg Gil to make Matthew come home with them. Gil's phone rings. Mila is surprised that it is Cat. Cat says her father has moved to Leeds with his girlfriend. As they compare their miseries, the two begin to laugh. Before she hangs up, Mila has the urge to tell Cat she loves her.

In Chapter 29, when Matthew shows up at Suzanne’s, Suzanne hugs him but pulls away. Gabriel seems happy to see Mila, but even happier to see his father. Suzanne takes Gabriel to put him in the bath. Matthew goes upstairs and closes himself into a room while Mila and Gil eat. Mila wonders if they had really thought...
