Summary

In Chapter 21, instead of calling Suzanne Gil sends her an email telling her they didn’t find Matthew at the camp. As Mila thinks about Matthew’s life she wonders how he will handle all of the lies and secrets that he has. She thinks about the transition that will change her from a child to an adult and wonders how it will happen. She wonders if there would come a point when she will run away from everything in her life. They pack up to leave. Before they set out on the road they stop for winter gear and food. They drive for a while in the falling snow before Mila crawls into the backseat and falls asleep.

When Mila wakes her father tells her he plans to get off at the next intersection and find a place to stay for the night...
