Summary

In “A Universe Where People Do Not Die for Doing the Right Thing,” Mia tells Jay that the woman, Reyna, said that Jun once lived with her. Jay stares at the child, who is probably two or three. He wants to ask if it is Jun’s child but cannot bring himself to know the truth.

Jay is unable to understand the language in which Mia and Reyna speak so he instead tries to imagine Jun living in that apartment. He is unable to do so. After Mia talks with Reyna for a while, she translates what Reyna has told her. When she was eleven, Reyna was sold by her father to a man who claimed he could get her a job as a housekeeper. Instead, Reyna was used as a prostitute.
