Chapter 50 Summary

Eric Gage is getting frustrated. Regan is much harder to kill than he expected. He calls her ungrateful. After everything he's done for her, she is now trying to make things difficult for him.

Gage hears Alec calling Regan's name, and then hears his approach through the woods. Gage turns and aims at the spot where Alec emerges. But before he can fire, Regan screams and drops out of a tree onto Gage, knocking him to the ground. She immediately rolls off and tries to scramble away. Gage latches onto her ankle, but Alec has a clear shot and fires once, directly into Gage's skull.

Regan is hysterical over how close Alec came to getting killed. Alec is astounded that, after everything Regan has just been through, she is worried about him. Finally, she gathers herself enough to ask, "Who was that man...
