Prologue Summary

Regan Hamilton Madison had a bad first day of kindergarten. Neither her mother nor her grandmother could be bothered to return from out of the country to accompany her. She knew her older brother would go with her if asked, but Regan decided she was a big girl now and didn't need anyone to go with her, just the chauffer to drop her off.

By the end of the first day, however, Regan was a disheveled wreck, biting her lip to keep from crying. She tearfully tells her brothers, Aiden, Spencer and Walker, about a bully, a second grader, bent on tormenting Cordie, who, along with Sophie, was one of the new friends she'd made. Aiden tells her to stand up to the bully, while Spencer and Walker want to go to school with Regan.....
