Summary

In Chapter 18, when Penn and Serenity arrive back in Natchez, Penn’s mother has moved her things into Penn’s house. She will be there for the duration of the trial. Doris and Quentin will be living in Edelweiss because it has a lift that will carry the weight of his motorized wheelchair. At Edelweiss, Penn and Quentin go to the balcony where Penn believes they are going to discuss the details of jury selection. Quentin tells Penn he has been listed as a member of Tom’s defense team only because his mother insists. Quentin also warns Penn that he plans to take an unconventional approach in the trial.

In Chapter 19, Penn and one of his guards walk to the courthouse Sunday evening. A black janitor named Noel Shelton approaches Penn. He tells him a story of how Tom forgave his brother...
