Chapter 41-43 Summary

John Chen meets Cole at Dersh's house. Cole recalls that at Karen Garcia's crime scene, Chen analyzed some oil drips from the killer's car. Cole asks if Chen looked for the same drips at Dersh's house, and Chen realizes that he did not. He spends the rest of the day taking samples from the streets near the murder scene.

Cole receives word that his detective's license and gun license have been revoked. Even worse, his relationship with Lucy is in a free-fall, as every conversation they have is more and more distant. Frank Garcia invites Cole to his home for dinner, and surprises him with a brand-new detective license and gun license. Cole is intensely grateful and emotionally overwhelmed.
