Chapter 3-4 Summary

A flashback sequence reveals how Pike met Karen Garcia. She is working at a day care center and calls the police to complain about a man standing across the street photographing the children at play. Joe Pike, then a street officer, and his partner Abel Wozniak respond to the call. Wozniak recognizes the description of the photographer as Lennie DeVille, a known pedophile. Pike promises Karen to take care of the situation, and Karen gives Pike her phone number.

Back in present day, Cole and Pike visit Karen Garcia's apartment, where they encounter a team of LAPD officers who tell them that Karen's body has just been discovered in Lake Hollywood. At Frank Garcia's request, the two detectives go to the site where the body lies . Harvey Krantz, lead detective for the elite.....
