Summary

Part Six is titled 2013. Chapter 50 is titled “Two Janesvilles.” Goldstein said there were two Janesvilles by this point. One was home to Mary, who had an expanded job with the bank and had passed unscathed through five years since the announcement that the GM plant was closing. If anything, her situation had improved. She continued working with Rock County 5.0 and in various other organizations. In the “other” Janesville, Jerad and his family were still struggling, though they were better off than some families. They had managed to hold onto their house and Jerad got a job delivering parts, though the traffic stressed him out and he often called Tammy to vent off his frustration. She had a job at a car dealership. They lost the food stamps they got for a short time, and could almost pay the bills.
