Point of View

The story is written in the first person from the limited perspective that switches between Belly and Jeremiah. The switching is not confusing because each chapter from Jeremiah's perspective is labeled with his name. The limitation means the reader is not privy to the thoughts of anyone other than Belly and Jeremiah unless Belly or Jeremiah is aware. The fact that the perspectives alternate also means the reader may not be aware of Belly's thoughts or of Jeremiah's thoughts when a scene is first described. For example, when the three have a party at the beach house, Belly says she's going swimming but Conrad insists that she doesn't. Belly goes onto the beach and she and Conrad argue, ending when Conrad picks her up and drops her on the sand.
