In chapter twenty-eight, Belly remembers a rare weekend when both her father and Mr. Fisher were at the beach house. She says they had little in common. On this particular weekend, Laurel and Susannah were dressing to out on a date with their husbands. Susannah had offered to put some makeup on Belly and she'd enjoyed the female attention.
