Chapters 19 through 23 Summary

In chapter nineteen, the perspective switches to Jeremiah. He says he knows that Belly expects him to stay downstairs and try to talk to Conrad about returning to school. He says he knows this because Belly is "easy to read." Jeremiah notes Belly's pajamas when he stops by her room and wonders if they're comfortable to sleep in.

In chapter twenty, Belly wakes but takes some time getting out of bed. She allows herself the luxury of pretending "it was any other morning in the summer house." Belly knows she'll soon be returning home where she'll spend the rest of her summer with Taylor. She accepts this is the final visit to the beach house. Belly calls Taylor who says Belly is "retarded" for allowing herself to be caught up in Conrad's drama. Belly then calls her mom, saying Belly is struggling with a breakup...
