Chapters 8 through 11 Summary
In chapter eight, Jeremiah remembers the moment the previous summer when he'd been clowning around with Belly at the poolside. Conrad joined them and a short time later Belly left to get a soda. Jeremiah says he watched Conrad watching Belly walk away and that it was a "game changing moment," one he knew meant that things would never again be the same. Jeremiah says he wanted to tell Conrad that he had ignored Belly for all their lives and that he couldn't simply stop ignoring her now because he felt like it. Jeremiah says that when Conrad went missing from summer school, he hadn't wanted to call Belly. He is still mad at her because she chose Conrad but more importantly, she hasn't called and stayed in touch with him after his mother's funeral - something a true friend would have made time for.
